the Magic of the Second Act

They say the uncertainty and self doubt around the second attempt is a real phenomenon—that the second attempt at anything is often the hardest because the initial adrenaline has faded, leaving only the task of living up to expectations. But as I sit here surrounded by submissions, half-empty coffee mugs and printed papers, I can confidently say that Volume II of our school magazine has bypassed the slump entirely. Instead, it has taken flight.

Welcome back to the latest edition of our collective journey.

Before we dive into the vibrant pages ahead, we must take a moment to acknowledge the past. When we launched Volume I, we were, quite honestly, holding our breath. We weren’t sure if the digital inbox would stay silent. Instead, you overwhelmed us.  To every person who read, shared, and cheered us on: Thank you. Your enthusiasm turned a “project” into a “publication.”

If Volume I was about discovery, Volume II is about depth. This issue is a kaleidoscope of the talent that lives within these four walls (and beyond them). We have intentionally curated a “literary buffet” that we hope offers a little something for everyone.

Now, we must focus our gaze toward the future. While you hold Volume II in your hands, the seeds for Volume III are already being planted.

To those of you who read these pages and think, “I wish It was my poem.” I have a secret for you: You can. The most common reason students give for not submitting is the fear that their work isn’t “perfect” or “profound” enough. Let’s dispel that myth right now. A school magazine isn’t a gallery for finished masterpieces; it is a laboratory for ideas. It is a safe space to experiment with a new style of poetry, to share a recipe you perfected over the weekend, or to write a review of a book that changed your mind about something.

So, dear students remember that this magazine belongs to you. It is your platform, your soapbox, and your canvas. We are merely the curators; you are the creators.

Happy reading!
