Lower Secondary Mathematics Webinar

The webinar on Lower Secondary Mathematics (grades 6 to 9) scheduled for the full week was informative and provided valuable insights into the syllabus and the teaching methodology.
The webinar thoughtfully addressed the key attributes expected of both teachers and students. It provided guidance on how students can develop confidence through consistent engagement and reflective practices, helping them gain deeper insight into their understanding and strengthen their overall learning.
Overall it was an enriching experience.

On 5th February 2026, I attended a webinar on “Practical classroom management strategies for teachers” jointly conducted by teachers at the British Council, namely Soma Sreshtha and Udani De Silva.

A. The key takeaways from the webinar are as follows:

1. Classroom management isn’t only about keeping learners
     Quiet.

2. It’s important to use visual tools and do more of board work. Different engaging activities must be arranged.

3. Teachers must guide students to reach their potential.

4. Student’s vernacular language is to be used as a resource/
tool and not to be seen as a problem.

5. Include hand gestures and puppets to communicate the idea properly to primary level children.

6. Isolate tricky questions from each lesson.

7. Quit asking the same question at the end of every lesson- “do you understand?” ( since the response is obvious)
